Beach Bots on Patrol!
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) is reportedly testing out AI robots by having them patrol the
country’s Jumeirah 3 Beach. The smart robots are looking for scooter riders and cyclists breaking the rules with motion sensors and 4K cameras.
The robot will use facial recognition technology and link it to an Emirates ID to fine anyone violating Dubai’s regulations governing electric scooters and bicycles.
The Dubai robot (who we should clarify is entirely friendly) will be able to identify a range of violations, such as failure to adhere to personal safety protocols like wearing helmets and abandonment of scooters in unauthorised areas.
The 30-day trial will study the accuracy of Artificial Intelligence’s detection during Robocop’s eight-hour daily patrol.
It will operate from 3 pm until 11 pm on weekdays and 5 pm until 1 am on weekends during the trial.
Robocop has an eight-hour battery life and is equipped with a 4K camera with night vision.
The robot, equipped with AI, is assigned to monitor soft mobility devices, such as electric scooters and bicycles, by sharing, analysing, and detecting infractions in conjunction with Dubai Police.
