As one of the few self-funded chef patrons in the UAE, Reif Othman’s business acumen and culinary expertise helped kickstart the food revolution Dubai has undergone over the past decade.

Othman’s career began in Singapore, working alongside his mother in her café before formal training at Shatec Culinary School. His international journey took off with prominent roles, including executive chef at Zuma Dubai.

Othman is celebrated in Dubai’s vibrant food scene for his daring approach to Japanese cuisine. He has built an impressive reputation for infusing his dishes with innovative twists and distinct personalities.

He launched his first self-branded restaurant, REIF Japanese Kushiyaki, in Dubai’s Dar Wasl Mall five years ago, captivating diners with an unconventional take on Japanese fare. His success led to further expansions, including a licensed branch at Time Out Market in Souk Al Bahar and an extended Dar Wasl location. Each venue showcases Reif’s distinct culinary philosophy, merging Japanese sensibilities with Italian and French influences, underpinned by exceptional quality, creativity, and consistency.

Known for his playful approach—evident in his “toilet roll” yuzu lemon cake and the Instagram-famous wagyu sando—Othman continues to redefine dining trends and surprise the culinary world. Married with two children, he’s as bold in fashion as he is in flavour, proving life, like food, should never be bland. Through Hotaru Holdings, Othman now leads an ambitious F&B company, developing brands like REIF Japanese Kushiyaki, TERO, and Hoe Lee Kow.
