World fashion closes in on the UAE
If you haven’t heard by now about Sex and the City 2 taking place in Abu Dhabi then you might just be living under a very unstylish rock. The most highly sort after fashion television sitcom turned big screen success is leaving the big apple and hitting the Arabian Desert. Carrie ( SJP), Miranda ( Cynthia Nixon), Samantha ( Kim Cattrall) and Charlotte ( Kristen Davis) are packing their New York bags and embarking on an out of city adventure to Abu Dhabi. Well a remake there of.
If you don’t know, Abu Dhabi and Dubai officials banned filming in the Emirate so the cast and crew headed to Morocco instead. Nonetheless the storyline is still set in the fashionably cool Emirate. And as Charlotte’s adopted daughter, Lily says to Carrie “[is it] like Jasmine and Aladdin?” to which Carrie replies “yes, sweetie, but with cocktails.” Ah, fabulous isn’t it?! So until next month when the movie is set for release we’re going to bite our Essie clad nails in anticipation until the big day. Oh, but keep an eye out at the box office. Rumour has it the flick will be released in the UAE but under a different title - Lady and the City…
Next on our fashion radars comes the ultimate exciting news which plunked itself in our inbox this week. Wait for it…London College of Fashion has head hunted the UAE as the next hot spot to roll out their super smart but highly stylish courses. Yes, you did read right. The school where Jimmy Choo studied shoe design and the intellectual stomping ground of Tom Ford, Alexandra Shulman and Donatella Versacehas announced they will be hitting the Emirate to offer nine short courses in everything from fashion journalism to styling.
So although the UAE may not be making a fashionable name for itself from the inside, ahem Fashion Week followers, the rest of the world certainly sees the potential oozing from its pampered surface. I heart Dubai fashion and style!
