Now here's something you don't read every day!
An African woman has been charged with physical assault after biting none other than a police officer in Dubai!
The officer stopped her in order to check her ID and a struggle ensued. The 24-year-old Ugandan woman, who is currently in the country illegally, bit the trainee policeman's right hand in retaliation on October 24, reports Khaleej Times.
"I admit I showed resistance and assaulted him but I had no idea they were police officers," the woman told The Court of First Instance. According to her statement, she thought she was being harassed by the man.
The policeman who was assaulted told the prosecutor: "I was on duty as a member of a security task force assigned with looking for and catching wanted individuals and suspects. There were also two lieutenants and a female corporal walking around with me in Freej Iyal Nasser. We spotted the defendant and got suspicious of her activities," he said.
"We stopped her to check whether she had a legal status here and showed her our police IDs. But she fiercely resisted and bit me on my right wrist. I had to go to the hospital to get treated for the injury."
The Ugandan woman admitted during investigation that she resisted the police officers on the day of the incident and that she was overstaying in the UAE with an expired visa.
The court will pronounce a ruling on January 30, 2018. What do you think the verdict will be?
