Dubai motorists can breathe a sigh of relief!
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that there will be no value-added tax (VAT) on Salik, or any public transport facilities for that matter!
There are seven Salik gates in Dubai, and toll of Dh4 is automatically deducted from smart tags every time a vehicle passes under these toll gates. This toll will not be subject to the five percent tax due to roll out on January 1, 2018.
"Passengers and commuters of public transport facilities like the buses, metro, tram and maritime transport, as well as cab passengers, will not be subject to VAT," the authority said in a statement to Khaleej Times.
This means all public transport prices will remain the same despite the implementation of VAT. We're so glad, aren't you?
