Nicki Minaj stunned fans and sent shockwaves through the music industry by announcing her retirement on social media recently. The uber-popular rapper claimed she wants to start a family with “husband” Kenneth Petty and she has decided to focus all her energy on becoming a mum.
“I’ve decided to retire & have my family,” she wrote on Twitter. “I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, X in the box – cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE. ”The announcement was a shock to industry insiders and fans everywhere as Minaj had been teasing a new album on her Queen Radio show. She also joined Megan Thee Stallion on seasonal smash Hot Girl Summer. A few days later, Nicki appeared to have backtracked after announcing she was retiring from her rap career, insisting she’s “still right here”.
Nicki confessed the tweet was “abrupt and insensitive” and promised to clarify the comments in an upcoming instalment of her Queen Radio show on Apple Beats 1. “I’m still right here,” the 36-year-old told fans. “Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything.” “The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologise babe,” she added. The news comes amid rumours the star recently wed fiancé Kenneth Petty in a quiet Los Angeles ceremony last month, after she adopted her married name on Twitter.
As previously reported, Nicki and her boyfriend recently obtained a marriage licence and she has referred to Pertty as her “husband”, but it’s not clear if the couple is actually married or not. Unlike rival Cardi B’s honest social media posts, it seems Nicki likes to keep us all guessing.
