In a mission to support local businesses struggling during the COVID-19 down-turn, Careem Now has announced a reduction in its commission of delivery fees.
Delivery apps typically take around a 30% cut of orders placed via the apps, and Careem has announced it will reduce its commission by 15% to support the smaller businesses that are relying on delivery revenue to get through this difficult time.
It's come as calls for a smaller commission have been made - with local businesses struggling to make ends meet, with spending reduced, dine-in restricted and unemployment rising.
Gheed El Makkaoui, General Manager at Careem UAE released a statement: “Careem pledges to assist its partners, customers and captains during these confusing times. Being a leader in the delivery industry, we need to be the supporting force behind our communities and our partners to push through this phase and ensure the business continuity of local merchants on our platform.”
Well done Careem for supporting local businesses, let's hope the others follow suit!
