Mariah Carey may have been confirmed as the next American Idol judge, but she’s not going to come easily! The multi-platinum-selling singer is set to receive a huge $18 million (Dhs66 million) for a year on the show, but even this extortionate figure won’t satisfy her diva demands.

Mariah has allegedly insisted that the third judge, who’ll replace Steven Tyler and sit alongside Randy Jackson and herself, must be “less famous” than her! A showbiz source said, “Mariah Carey wants to be the centrepiece of the new panel and the new look of the show and doesn’t want to be overshadowed [in any way] whatsoever. Many are scared on set that she’s going to be a major diva!”

Insiders revealed Mariah, 42, was a “nightmare to work with” during her stint as a guest mentor on the show in 2008, as she was often late, nitpicked about tiny details and generally was “not very nice at all”. In contrast, the same sources said that J-Lo was a pleasure to work with in comparison to Mariah!

Mariah will replace J-Lo, who allegedly quit the show over money issues after the network refused to give her a $2 million (Dhs7.3 million) pay rise.

Diva Alert
On her new gig, Mariah dished,
“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol. I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, Triumphant, which will be out early next month.” Nice self-promotion there, Mariah!
