Christmas is always an expensive time to fly out if the UAE and home - to wherever that may be. So, what if we told you there was an art to finding and booking a flight at the perfect time ahead of the festive season?

Skyscanner's experts have been researching and found the best time to book flights out of the UAE to a number of popular destinations, helping UAE residents to find the best flight deals.

Here are eight of the most popular destinations for the UAE's festive travellers, and the best time to get booking: 

1. Philippines

The best time to book for Christmas in this picturesque destination is 13 weeks in advance (between 24 and 30 September).

The most expensive time to book, is one week in advance (between 17 and 23 December).

On average, ticket prices 13 weeks in advance were 13% cheaper than the average ticket price for the same period and, last year, only 4% of people booking got the best deal.

Ticket prices the week before were 17% more expensive than the average and last year 9% of people booked at this time.

2. India

If you intend on spending the festive season in India, your best bet would be to book right now (between 10 and 16 September).

Don’t delay any further! Booking 6 or 7 weeks in advance (between 12 and 25 November) is too risky and will cost you an awful lot more.

On average, ticket prices 15 weeks in advance were 15% cheaper than the average ticket price for the same period and, last year, only 1% of people booking got the best deal.

Ticket prices six weeks before were 8% more expensive than the average and last year 11% of people booked at this time.

3. United Kingdom

To avail the best tickets to the United Kingdom, book 9 weeks in advance (between 22 and 28 October).

You’d think that booking earlier than that would land you with the best deals, however, Skyscanner’s research revealed that 12 weeks in advance (between 1 and 7 October) is historically the most expensive time to buy.

On average, ticket prices 9 weeks in advance were 10% cheaper than the average ticket price for the same period and, last year, only 4% of people booking got the best deal.

Ticket prices 12 weeks in advance were 5% more expensive than the average and last year 5% of people booked at this time.

United Kingdom

4. Pakistan

Book 12 weeks in advance (between 1 and 7 October) to bag yourself the best Christmas time tickets to Pakistan.

The most expensive time to book is 1 week in advance (between 17 and 23 December).

On average, ticket prices 12 weeks in advance were 26% cheaper than the average ticket price for the same period and, last year, less than 1% of people booking got the best deal.

Ticket prices 1 week in advance were 23% more expensive than the average and last year almost a quarter of people (24%) booked at this time.

Pakistan

5. Egypt

Prime time to book for Christmas in Egypt is 13 weeks in advance (between 20 and 24 September).

The most expensive time to book is during the christmas period itself (24 and 30 December).

On average, ticket prices 13 weeks in advance were 29% cheaper than the average ticket price for the same period and, last year, only 2% of people booking got the best deal.

Ticket prices during the christmas period was 22% more expensive than the average and last year 18% of people booked at this time.

Egypt

6. Lebanon

To buy the cheapest tickets for Christmas in Lebanon, started booking now since the best deals are available 15 weeks in advance (between 10 and 16 September).

Avoid booking 6 weeks in advance (between 12 and 18 November), tickets during this period are the most costly.

On average, ticket prices 15 weeks in advance were 29% cheaper than the average ticket price for the same period and, last year, only 2% of people booking got the best deal.

Ticket prices 6 weeks in advance were 21% more expensive than the average and last year 3% of people booked at this time.

7. Thailand

If you’re booking tickets to the heart of Southeast Asia, buy them 9 weeks in advance (between 22 and 28 October).

The most expensive time to book is 2 weeks in advance (between 10 and 16 December).

On average, ticket prices 9 weeks in advance were 16% cheaper than the average ticket price for the same period and, last year, only 4% of people booking got the best deal.

Ticket prices 2 weeks in advance were 23% more expensive than the average and last year 18% of people booked at this time.

Thailand

8. United States of America 

Buy tickets 10 weeks in advance (15 and 21 October) to make the smartest purchase to the US during Santa’s season.

The most expensive time to book is 1 week in advance (17 and 23 December).

On average, ticket prices 10 weeks in advance were 15% cheaper than the average ticket price for the same period and, last year, 8% of people booking got the best deal.

Ticket prices 1 week in advance were 14% more expensive than the average and last year 10% of people booked at this time.
