Victoria's Secret Model Karlie Kloss Tells Us Her Fitness Secrets
How do you train and stay active?
I am constantly on the move and love to be active. I studied ballet my whole life, so dance is a huge part of life for me and part of my exercise routine.
Are there certain workouts that you like to do?
I trained as a classical ballerina growing up. Ballet and dance are passions of mine. But I also love to learn and practice different ways to strengthen my body by trying out different strengthening exercises and intense workouts like the ones I’ve done with Nike Training Club Master Trainers. I like to switch it up and think that’s the best way to really challenge my body and become stronger in every way.
What does movement mean to you?
Movement is everything. A body in motion stays in motion. I like to keep moving. For me, that can be anything from dancing to going for a run. I travel a lot, so I’m constantly on the move, but even when I’m travelling, I make sure to stay active because that’s when I feel my best.
Can you describe how you feel when you’re dancing?
Dancing is art to me, both watching dance and performing it. I think dancing is such a creative, beautiful expression of the human body. So I’m very passionate about dance.
Is there anything that the public doesn’t know about you?
A lot of people don’t know how curious I am. I love to learn, whether it be about different ways to train and strengthen my body or about different ways to strengthen my mind. In my travels, I’m incredibly fortunate and have amazing opportunities to go to some incredible cities. I love to go to museums and to read about art, history and sports. I’m curious about everything.
How do you stay connected with family and friends when you’re travelling the world?
My family is a huge part of who I am and also the career I’ve had to date. They are incredible. I have three sisters who all danced with me. We’re all athletic, which is partially why I’m so competitive. We make each other better. It’s really important to me to stay in contact with my family and share everything I’m experiencing with them. So I talk to and spend as much time with them as I can.
What are you most passionate about? What really moves you?
I’m really inspired by people who share their positivity, happiness and stories of strength. A lot of the athletes I watch have these incredible stories of dedication and incredible passion for self-improvement. I find that really inspiring because it motivates me to make myself better.
What do you like about social media?
I love social media. It’s an opportunity for me to share what I’m passionate about and what I’m experiencing and seeing through my travels. Social media is amazing because it gives everyone an opportunity to have a voice to the world.
What does being a role model mean to you?
It’s incredibly humbling to know that somebody might look up to me and I don’t take that lightly. That means a lot to me and it motivates me that much more to try and be the best I can be. My role models that I’m really inspired by are strong in every way— in body, in mind and in their dedication. I want to be just as great of a role model, so I’m very conscious about the way I live my life and the example I set.
Any future fitness goals on your agenda?
One goal on my bucket list is to some day run a half marathon. With some group training, maybe within the next year or two, I’d love to run a half marathon, or even someday a full marathon. I think goals are really important to have when you’re training. That’s one thing that I learned through ballet. With hard work, dedication and passion, you can really accomplish anything. I think a marathon will be a challenge, but I love a challenge. Bring it on.
What is your favorite sport?
I love football. I am obsessed. I have my own fantasy football team and love going to games.
What is it that you love about football?
I love the strategy that goes into the play - it's not just a bunch of guys beating one another up, so it's good to watch and for me I also like playing chess. It’s a lot of thought that goes into it and I love that.
What do you look for in footwear and apparel?
For me, it’s all about function. I want something that’s going to be functional, whether I’m running or dancing.
I think it’s about being comfortable, but having apparel and footwear that are really wearable. I tend to work out in the morning and then go to the studio for work. So I want to wear something that I feel good in and can go to work in. When you wear athletic wear that you feel confident in, it’s motivation to actually get your butt to the gym.
What does style mean to you and how would you describe your personal style?
I think style is a form of self-expression. My style is simple and elegant. I love classic, timeless pieces and think my style is very All-American.
