Victoria's Gift Spree
Most of us are familiar with the idea of a
baby shower but for new mum Victoria Beckham the past few months have been a
veritable baby monsoon. Ever since Victoria and David announced her pregnancy in
January, companies have been inundating the couple with freebies, in the hope
of winning some extra publicity. This comes on top of such a huge stream of
lavish gifts from the Beckhams’ celebrity friends that they have filled
an entire room in their Los Angeles home, according to friends.
However, while the Beckhams will naturally be
keeping all of their friends’ presents, it’s a different story for the other
items, which are being returned to the companies that gave them, or given to
charity shops close to their home. Sources close to the Beckhams say that it’s
their policy never to accept freebies and if anyone contacts their LA office,
that's what they are told. However, that doesn’t seem to have put people off and, as a
result, Victoria has been swamped with a dozen pushchairs and countless other items, which are now going on sale in local charity shops.
Last week the Mail on Sunday reported that
the Beckhams were sent a custom-made iCandy stroller and carrycot in a special
shade of purple, after Victoria had commented that she didn’t like the colours
of things on offer in the stores. It’s also known that other pushchairs
included a special-edition Bugaboo Cameleon, an Uppababy Vista, another Bugaboo
model and an Orbit stroller. Also among the almost $10,000 (Dhs36,000) worth of items received by LA charity shops were changing tables, carry cots and
a swing set.
