Is this good news or bad news? We're not 100 per cent sure... Today, car-hailing app, Uber, has announced a new fare structure for its Dubai rides, across both UberSELECT and UberVIP trips in the UAE city.
The changes effect the price per minute and kilometre, as well as the base fare and minimum fees.
Uber itself has admitted in a statement, "These changes will result in higher fares on some trips, while fares will be lower on other trips. The fare breakdown can be seen in the upfront pricing displayed prior to booking a ride."
Adding, "Effective immediately, base fares will fluctuate based on the day of the week and the time of day. Additionally, the per-minute and per-kilometre fare components and the booking fee will be updated."
Uber broke it down like this:
The new Uber rates in a nutshell:
- Base fares used to be Dhs8, but now varies by day and time, ranging from Dhs5.40 to Dhs10.60
- The minimum fare has dropped from Dhs17 to Dhs15
- The price per kilometre has jumped from Dhs1.83 per kilometre to Dhs2.25, but the price per minute has dropped from Dhs0.50 to Dhs0.25
- The waiting charge remains the same, Dhs0.50 per minute
