If you've noticed for the last couple of days, the top left corner of your phone screen says UAENumber1 instead of Etisalat, du or Virgin. The service providers went through this change to celebrate the UAE achieving the number one ranking globally in the Internet and Telecommunications Sectors as per the Competitiveness Index. Impressive.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) tweeted an infographic explaining it. Basically to break it down to you, the UAE has advanced its ranking from the 104th in 2016 to the first rank in 2019 globally. Big jump!

The results were recently published by The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation and decided by the Knowledge Index Report. The UAE holds other achievements in the telecommunications sector, but they have upped their game with this new rank.

HE Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: This accomplishment has been achieved by all of us, and we hope to continue in a team spirit to maintain the UAE’s leading position and to enhance our national vision, to make the UAE the first globally in various fields.”

Well done to the UAE, you always make us proud!
