Following judo champion, Sergiu Toma, it looks like the UAE has won another medal for the Paralympics in Rio!
Mohammed Khamid Khalaf won gold in the men’s 88kg powerlifting competing after he benched 220 kilos. The forty-six year old who hails from UAE, suffers from leg paralysis after he contracted polio and has previously won medals at the Athens and Beijing Paralympics.
The powerlifter was studying in Abu Dhabi when he fell in love with the sport. “It symbolises challenge and strength. If you don’t train for a week you come back and have to start from scratch. This is why I admire powerlifting – because you can never stop” said Mohammed.
