It’s official! Residents in the UAE are fighting the flab to become the fittest in the world! According to figures out last year the UAE had been seventh out of 177 countries on the 'Global Fat Scale.‘
But it seems that didn’t sit well with residents who are now working out more than ever before. New figures reveal that UAE residents are following doctor’s orders with as much as sixty per cent taking part in some type of sporting activity at least three times a week.
According to the research 34% of UAE residents prefer to hit the gym, closely followed by 30% who opt for yoga or pilates classes to stay healthy and reduce stress. Meanwhile, 24% prefer to mix social activity and exercise with team sports and competitive games. Findings also revealed that 7% of the population is opting for intense one-to-one sessions with personal trainers whereas 5% would rather work out behind the scenes in their own homes with a fitness DVD.
The survey was comes ahead of the launch of the region’s largest consumer lifestyle event – The Life & Style Show UAE, taking place 5 to 7 December 2013 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC).
“Our research provides real insights into the prevailing attitudes towards wellbeing amongst UAE residents. What the results reveal is a significant commitment towards fitness in the UAE which is in stark contrast to current popular perceptions. Clearly a significant proportion of the population likes to achieve balance in their lives by working hard, playing hard and looking after themselves,” said Ashley Roberts, Event Director, dmg events Middle East.
