UAE Exclusive: Lady Gaga Interview – Part II
Yesterday we brought you the first instalment of our interview with Lady Gaga, celebrating Ahlan! Live’s new Lady Gaga Look Book, which now resides at the top of our homepage bringing you all the hot new pics of Lady Gaga’s latest outfits every day.
Today, our favourite fashionista discusses her finest fashion moment, how she plans to revolutionise pop and why she’s used a German curse word as the title of one of her songs – but to Gaga, the only bad word is ‘groupie’. She loves her entourage and her fans and here she explains what she hopes to help them achieve. But first, let’s talk clothes...
You’re a fashion icon. What was your best fashion moment?
Right now! This is a Versace outfit… Actually, I'm only going to wear Versace for the next two months. I’m having a love affair with Donatella.
You dedicated your song Fashion For His Love to your friend Alexander McQueen. Would you ever create your own fashion label?
I hope so. Well, I can't tell you, because someone else will steal my idea.
You also want to revolutionise the pop world –what is there to change?
There's always something to change. Things don't just stay the same. There's always a natural evolution and I want to push the boundaries of pop music, push the boundaries of structure, sound, choices, subject matter...
You said you were inspired to write one of the songs on your Born This Way album, Scheisse, after going clubbing in Berlin. 'Scheisse' is actually a really bad word in German - what made you want to write this song?
I meant it like, 'S**t! It's good'. But I also meant it the other way, because this song is really about wanting to be a strong female without all the bulls**t that comes along with it. Anything that stands in the way of being brave. I wrote the song right after I left Berlin. I’d been to the Laboratory the night before, having some fun with my friends, then the next day I wrote it. When I was doing the beat with RedOne [one of Gaga’s key musical collaborators] he said, 'Oh, that reminds me of that club I went to, Scheisse. And then I said, 'I‘ve got to call it 'Scheisse'!
And is it true you're already preparing for a Born This Way tour?
Yes, it will begin at the start of next year but I have to start rehearsing by the end of this year. That's what I do...
Are there any big differences between your fans in the Middle East and your fans closer to home in America?
No. Little Monsters are a race.
Do you have groupies as well?
I don't like that word. 'Groupies' implies that they just hang around, but I have wonderful people who travel all over the world with me. They are my best friends and my creative partners. I don't like the word groupie.
You’re ranked as the most influential celebrity – doesn't that scare you? Does it seem like there is nothing more to achieve?
Well, if you're running a marathon, and you're about to cross the finish line, you don't stop and say, ‘once I cross it, it's over’, you run as fast as you can to get there as quickly as you can. I guess, for me, it's about how many marathons I can run. How many dreams can I make come true? Not for me, but for my fans. What I'm saying is, my dreams have become a reality and have changed. Now my dream is to aid the dreams of others. I want my fans to reach for the stars and beyond for themselves.
