The UAE has confirmed an additional 277 cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of cases in the emirates up to 2,076.
At a media briefing, Dr Farida Al Hosani - the official spokesperson of the UAE health sector - stated that these new cases were from testing people who had come into contact with previously recorded cases.
While this is a large jump, Dr Al Hosani said the authorities do not consider this to be a concern, as the UAE has increased its testing and medical examination.
There has also been another death reported, taking the total number of fatalities in UAE up to 11. An additional 23 people have been tested and reported as recovered, taking the total recoveries to 167.
She said: "For the sake of everyone’s health and safety, we must avoid celebrations, family gatherings, children’s visits to neighbours, and spending time in the streets. We must refrain from distributing and sharing sweets with others," she concluded.
