22 Mar 2020

It excludes subscriptions

The UAE National Media Council has announced a temporary ban on the distribution of magazines, newspapers and marketing materials, from March 24.

The decision is in an aim to reduce the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus.

Subscriptions of newspapers and magazines are exempted from the ban, as they are delivered directly into homes, while large outlets in shopping malls are exempted, provided all health and safety precautions are adhered to.

According to national news agency WAM: "The decision includes banning the distribution of printed materials, including advertisements, in residential complexes, restaurants, hotels, health centres and clinics, waiting halls in public sector and private sector services centres and other places where several people are likely to use the same printed materials. The ban does not apply to awareness publications approved by the health authorities."

This does not affect the digital arms of titles.
