Conservation efforts pay off with sea animal sightings

Le Méridien Al Aqah has welcomed a number of new residents to its shores, Turtles. The sea creatures have been spotted recently after conservationists installed a protective wall on the beach to prevent erosion.

The turtles are now becoming a tourist attraction for guests and are regularly cited on snorkelling and scuba diving trips.

“Sea turtles are one of the most commonly recognized endangered animals,” said Le Méridien Al Aqah General Manager, Patrick Antaki.”Their demise in fishing nets and upon renovated beaches has prompted international efforts to stop their extinction. It is so heartening to see that they’re back in our waters thanks to concerted efforts and initiatives such as the Reef Project and the protection wall,” he added.

“Our beautiful beach is one of our main attractions so it is imperative that we do all that we can to raise environmental understanding and assist with protection.”
