Tune Into The FIFA 2014 World Cup Opening Ceremony Tonight

12 Jun 2014

Football, dancing, beautiful Brazilians – and yes, Jennifer Lopez!

It may be every lads dream, and every wife’s nightmare, (or vice-versa if your other half is footie-fixated) but we need to face the inevitable; the FIFA World Cup 2014 has arrived. Fret not as Ahlan! has broken down the World Cup opening ceremony so you can catch all the best bits tonight!

When: Thursday, 12 June
Where: Arena de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Opening Ceremony Start Time: 10pm (Dubai), 7pm (GMT)
Match Kick-off Time: Brazil Vs Croatia 9pm (GMT), 12 midnight (Dubai)
Tune into: BeIN Sports. But sadly du and etisalat subscribers can only watch the 64 matches if they subscribe to the FIFA Football package separately. Those who are not du or etisalat subscribers need to take the beIN Sports package separately.

Ensemble Show
The official line: The beginning of the World Cup will feature a song and dance performance celebrating the host nation's history and spirit. Created by Artistic Director Daphne Cornez, the show will be a feast for the eyes with musicians, gymnasts, trampolinists (!) and more, portraying the story of Brazil.
Our Take: Really, really, really ridiculously good-looking people dressed in feathers galore getting us in the Samba-spirit.

Musical Acts
The million dirham question was 'will she or won't she'? We can (finally we hope) confirm that bootylicious JLo WILL be strutting her stuff onstage, live and in person, with Cuban-American rapper Pitbull and Brazilian national Claudia Leitte. They'll be belting out their new single We Are One, the official World Cup anthem which already notched up over 40 million YouTube hits.  JLo had initially pulled out of the ceremony but luckily has signed back up for the show.
If mega-award winning international acts aren't your thing, then we
're also promised that Brazils’ best independent talent will take to the stage.

Opening Match
Brazil Vs Croatia will kick off the World Cup at 12 midnight UAE local time. The favourites-to-win host country will be sure to put on a show, but the not-to-be-underestimated Croatian team is confident in their ability to pull off an upset.

No matter who you support, or if you're just along for the spectacle, tonight will be a night to remember!
