Treatment Review: Milk Peel

18 Apr 2012

We test the quickie refresher facial from Slim Spa

WHAT: A fast facial peel to improve complexion, designed to be undertaken as part of a course or as a quickie facial refresher.
WHERE: Slim Spa, Al Attar Tower, DIFC, Dubai, 04 343 7987,
HOW LONG: 30 minutes including prep and consultation
HOW MUCH: Dhs400 for a single session, Dhs1,400 for four sessions, Dhs2,100 for six
THE TREATMENT: Dubbed the lunchtime peel, this mild treatment allows you to continue with your day following treatment. The therapist started with a cleansing ritual to prepare the skin, followed by a skin analysis. As this was my first peel and I have sensitive skin, she recommended leaving the peel solution on for only 60 seconds and prior to the peel, I was given a fan to cool down my skin if necessary.
The solution from Derma Ceutic has a pH of 1.7 and is made up of 50 per cent glycolic acid, 10 per cent lactic acid and four per cent salicylic acid. She applied it to my face, starting with my forehead and working down to my neck. After about 20 seconds there was a strong tingling, and she continued to massage it in until the timer went off.
After the peel was removed, the therapist applied a generous amount of intensive Derma Ceutic K Ceutic repair cream, which cooled the skin, preventing red patches. On leaving I was given K Ceutic samples, including a thick SPF40 face cream, to continue the after-care.
THE RESULTS: Although the solution stung, it wasn’t half as bad as I was expecting; at just one minute, the treatment was manageable. Afterwards my face was only slightly pink and felt tight – my complexion looked fantastic! Five to six sessions were recommended at fortnightly intervals to achieve the full effect. I would definitely consider going back for the full package.
