THE TREATMENT: As a fan of massages (like most people) I was really excited to test out the Elakizhi massage. The ancient treatment originates from Kerala in the south of India, the same place that my therapist was from, so I knew I was in great hands. The intense massage is said to tackle a range of things, including spasms and stiffness of muscles and provides relief from joint pain. It also enhances blood circulation and is a great way to detox – by introducing heat to the body, toxins are removed through sweat. First, my therapist massaged my entire body with Ayurvedic oils for 40 minutes. It was super relaxing, but the best was yet to come in the form of a second body massage, but this time with a mixture of warm oil, herbs and roasted leaf bags. The mixture was warm, but not too hot and felt great on my skin. After the second massage, my therapist left me relaxing to allow the oils to be absorbed completely, and advised me to wait an hour before showering when I got home. My skin already felt smooth and rejuvenated, but after showering it was positively glowing.
THE RESULTS: This was one of the most relaxing massages I have ever experienced and left me with super-smooth skin that felt totally refreshed!
