City life has its pros and cons, let’s be honest. Yes, the constant buzz can be fun and exhilarating, but it can also be exhausting – mentally and physically. After a bustling 2017, we decided we needed a tranquil start to the year. And what better place to do so than Nepal and its majestic Himalayan mountain range? Nope, we can’t think of a better spot either.

Fortunately, the region has a variety of top hotels, but few are as magical as The Dwarika’s Resort Dhulikhel. The resort is a holistic lifestyle retreat, drawing on ancient Himalayan knowledge and philosophy of care for nature and for one’s self. Set in magnificent natural surroundings, it offers a place in which to contemplate, to learn and to explore the connectedness between mind, body and earth.

Find Your Peace

The Dwarika’s Resort believes in the need for maintaining harmony between body, mind, spirit and earth in order to enjoy a peaceful, healthy and balanced life. Drawing on ancient scriptures, medicine and traditional Himalayan knowledge, the resort is founded on a philosophy of respecting nature and the self. In fact, the entire resort has been built using natural materials such as stone, wood, earth and traditional building method of lime with brick dust. The resort also incorporates other environmental systems, including water re-harvesting, grey water treatment, solar lighting and recycling of food and other waste. The resort’s aim is that, no matter what you are seeking, after a stay at the retreat, you will depart with a greater sense of peace. And boy, do they get it right.

Mother Nature Approved

As if crafted by Mother Nature herself, each space and suite at the resort is unique. Following ancient Himalayan principles of energy and built using local materials that are not harmful to the earth or to you, care has been taken to ensure that each suite is a haven of positivity. With private indoor and outdoor living and sleeping spaces, your suite is part of a lifestyle that brings you closer to nature. Because what’s better than relaxing on a daybed overlooking the Himalayas? Not much. It’s an ideal setting for reflection, relaxation and revival, while sipping on local coffee. And believe us, the coffee is REALLY good. We eventually stocked up at the airport en route home.

Feel Good

The resort focuses on your complete wellbeing, drawing on the knowledge and holistic lifestyle of the Himalayan region. It is a story of nurturing harmony within the spirit, the body and the mind. Each element at the resort has been designed to address the Pancha Kosha or five layers of being; Annamaya (physical), Pranamaya (vital air), Manamaya (mind), Vijnanamaya (intellect) and Anandamaya (inner bliss). The resort’s Pancha Kosha Himalayan Spa offers treatments and activities that address each of the Koshas. That’s not all. The property also features a Himalayan salt room (which works wonders for asthma, allergies, bronchitis and sinus congestions), a meditation maze, chakra sound chambers and various other facilities that will make you feel like a million bucks.

Have Fun!

If we learnt one thing, finding your inner peace certainly doesn’t need to be boring. The lifestyle facilities at the resort includes a range of activities that address and enhance the different Koshas, allowing you to explore the connectedness between nature, body, mind and spirit. These include pottery, meditation, yoga, painting, cooking classes, hiking and nature walks. And, of course, to maintain a balanced body and mind, we need to be nourished with the right type and the right amount of food. Meals are therefore a key aspect of the resort, and one of its highlights. The resort’s various dining destinations only use fresh, seasonal and local produce, primarily sourced from its own organic farms, or from other local farmers. Now if that doesn’t cleanse your mind, body and soul, we don’t know what will.
