1 DUNES DIVA AVIS ELLIS IS BACK
TUE-SAT EVERY WEEK
Whirling into Qatar after a stint performing in a Las Vegas show, popular American singer Avis Ellis is back in residence at Dunes in the Grand Hyatt Doha. Performing with Portuguese keyboard player Juan Pestana, she’s torching through everything from Justin Timberlake to Pink, eighties classics to Frank Sinatra. We caught up with Avis to chat about celebs and what she’s been up to since 2012, when she was last in town and singing at Dunes.
Welcome back to Doha! We’ve heard you have been singing in Vegas, where you have spent much of your career…
Yes, I’ve been in Vegas doing a show called Dancing Queen. It was a seventies and eighties revival in the main showroom of Planet Hollywood. When Dancing Queen closed, I decided to return to Doha because this city is like my second home. I love the people, the food and the weather.
Did you see any celebrities?
Yes! Meatloaf was [performing] before our show and I met him in the elevator at Planet Hollywood. Also, Britney Spears was performing in the room right next to ours.
What’s your craziest Vegas experience ever?
New Year’s in 2011! OMG! There were over a million people, all within a three mile radius. That was really insane! The Las Vegas strip is amazing on New Year’s Eve.
What’s your guilty musical pleasure?
I love Nicki Minaj. She is really not ashamed to bring in on her s.. appeal.
Which celebrity would you most love to meet and why?
Beyoncé. I hear she is really nice and down to earth.
