Qatar turned on the festivities for an amazing start to Eid, as thousands of people flocked to Katara cultural village, Souq Waqif and other popular meeting places to enjoy a smorgasbord of entertainment. We round up some of the highlights….
1. Fireworks and laser lights show at Katara
Nothing says celebration quite like fireworks, and this year’s shows did not disappoint. Thousands of people gathered at the waterfront to watch the laser lights and fireworks go off from Katara each evening over the weekend. There were also colourful fountains synchronised to ‘perform’ to the sounds of music.
2. Souq Waqif’s Eid Festival
The Souq is full of surprises over Eid for the young and the young at heart, with six days of performances and entertainment until 14 August. There is children’s theatre, acrobats, a soap field, a series of shows and a magical atmosphere. Yes, the parking is a nightmare, but worth battling through.
3. Wanasa Entertainment City at the Doha Exhibition Centre
When the rest of the celebrations quieten down, this fun zone will still be going right up until 15 September. It’s a giant pop-up entertainment palace of shows, restaurants, kid’s games and shopping. Check it out.
4. House parties
While it’s fab to go out, it can be just as fun to stay in. House parties are one of the best parts of a festive holiday as you realise that you can have that nice long snooze the next morning…..
5. Escaping the crowds
Yes, the city is buzzing with things to do, but there is nothing quite like getting out of the traffic for some peace and quiet. Many people found escaping to Sealine Beach for a barbeque and some zzzs infinitely preferable to the bright lights of Doha.
