Dubbed a leader in the world of modern circus, this troupe hail from Montreal in Canada. They’ll be taking over the World Trade Centre with their combination of circus arts, music, dance and theatre. Set up in 1993, performers have travelled to more than 40 countries and have staged shows at top venues including Sydney Opera House and New York’s Lincoln Center. This production, iD, sees urban dance added to the mix to bring a hip and trendy spin to proceedings. It’s presented in association with the hugely popular Cirque du Soleil.

The Laughter Factory

With no fewer than five stops across Dubai and Abu Dhabi you won’t be far away from a good chuckle over the next few weeks. Comics lined up to entertain the crowds include Irishman John Lynn, who has supported big name and fellow countryman Tommy Tiernan and gave up his job as a teacher to give gags a go. Also on the bill are Pierre Hollins, who has been dubbed a “dependable laugh generator” back in the UK, and Caimh McDonnell who writes for British female comedy hotshot, Sarah Millican.

Arab Idol Live Tour
Thursday 15 August

It might not have Simon Cowell, but this year’s local version of the global TV hit was a huge success. The massively popular winner Mohammad Assaf, 23, was given a hero’s welcome home after scooping the prize on MBC TV in Beirut. He won a recording contract and a car. He is joined at this show by finalists Ahmad Jamal and Farah Youssef. Lebanese singer and show judge Ragheb Alama will also perform.

Michael Ball Sings The Musicals
Friday 16 to Saturday 17 August

Britain’s top leading man is bringing his latest show to the UAE. Musical theatre fans will rejoice at seeing Michael, 51, who first found fame in Andrew Lloyd Webber show Aspects of Love with his hit Love Changes Everything. Michael went on to star in pretty much every major stage show from Les Misérables to Phantom of the Opera. He’s still going strong, most recently scooping an Olivier Award (Britain’s theatre Oscars) for his devilish portrayal of Sweeney Todd in the gruesome musical of the same name. He’s also a regular on BBC Radio Two… but did you know he once also starred in top UK soap Coronation Street? Expect all the West End and Broadway hits, with the music provided by members of the acclaimed British Philharmonic Orchestra.

SummerFest Abu Dhabi
Wednesday 14 to 17 August

This 52-day event has brought shows, games and sport to the city, but is now drawing to a close. Though events have been held around the city, the hub is the Exhibition Centre, revolving around a family-friendly hub of ‘edutainment’ activities, world-class shows and international performances spread over four action-packed halls. Time is running out to tackle the giant obstacle course, Cartoon Network village and Show World, where productions include Ben 10. Catch it while you can!
