Top 10 Pizzas in Dubai

08 Jan 2014

We have a slight pizza obsession, so here's our latest review of the best places to get your pizza fix in Dubai

1. Eataly
Our fave: Margherita
Price of a Margherita: Dhs56
This new opening takes top spot thanks to a winning combination of top quality ingredients – from the San Marzano tomato base to the mozarella made in house twice a day. Eataly's pizzas are cooked to crisp perfection in front of your eyes in classic wood-burning ovens and they're definitely one of the most authentically Italian options you'll find in Dubai.

2. Bussola
Our fave: Funghi (porcini & button mushrooms with truffle oil)
Price of a Margherita: Dhs58
For traditional pizza with a view, Bussola is Dubai’s best spot. Take a seat on the upstairs terrace overlooking the gulf and order from their big selection of pizzas made to order from the wood-burning oven. The dough is light and crunchy and their delicious speciality toppings are straight from Italy.

3. Rossovivo
Our fave: Angela (bresaola, rocket, basil & Parmesan)
Price of a Margherita: Dhs38
Rossovivo started out small with an understated spot in Business Bay and they’ve now opened a second Media City location and attracted a massive fan base. The oven was made in Italy so you know you’re getting the real deal, plus more people in the restaurant speak Italian than English most days! Delivery is also quick and efficient, but for maximum enjoyment eat on the spot.

4. Ronda Locatelli
Our fave: Speck, gorgonzola & porcini mushrooms
Price of a Margherita: Dhs60
Although on the pricier side of the scale, this eatery – backed by acclaimed chef Giorgio Locatelli – consistently delivers tasty and generously portioned pizzas. Every season Ronda Locatelli launches a truffle menu that includes an insanely good pizza featuring the prized ingredient.

5. Certo
Our fave: Prosciutto crudo e rucola
Price of a Margherita: Dhs48
The restaurant has an official stamp of authenticity by the powers that be in Italy so you can expect a real taste of the motherland at Certo. The pizza menu is extensive with flavourful topping combinations such as porcini mushrooms, goat’s cheese and roasted garlic, plus they have calzones including one stuffed with oozing gorgonzola cheese, spicy salami and sun dried tomatoes.

6. Italianissimo
Our fave: Pizza alla bufala
Price of a Margherita: Dhs60
For a mall setting, Italianissimo doesn’t come cheap, but when you hear the pizzaolas shouting orders in Italian you know you’ll be served it just like they do in Napoli. In proper Italian style, the toppings are used sparingly (there’s no cheese overload) and as a result, the base is crisp without that soggy dip in the centre.

7. Carluccio’s
Our fave: Capricciosa (turkey ham, olives, mushrooms & artichokes)
Price of a Margherita: Dhs38
Carluccio’s has a concise but comprehensive selection of pizzas with tasty meat and veg options. The ingredients are always super-fresh and they don’t skimp on toppings. Make sure to ask for it well-cooked as the generous toppings can make the base slightly soggy, otherwise it’s a reliable spot for both dine-in and delivery.

8. Brandi
Our fave: Margherita
Price of a Margherita: Dhs56
Our friends from Napoli are big advocates of this spot that has a staggering 18 different pizzas including ones dedicated to famous Italian personalities like the legendary Sofia Loren. The pizzas are made in front of you at a dedicated pizza counter where you can watch a flurry of perfectly cooked pies coming straight out of the wood-burning oven to your table.
INFO: The Dubai Mall, 04 325 3336, (opening soon in Citywalk Mall),

9. La Veranda
Our fave: Diavola (spicy beef pepperoni, beef sausages & bell peppers)
Price of a Margherita: Dhs70
The iconic hotel, Burj Views and beachfront setting means this is the most expensive pizza on our list, but the yummy flavours won’t leave you feeling short-changed. It’s small and intimate, and the whole ambiance of the restaurant will make your pizza that much more enjoyable especially if you head over early enough for sunset.

10. 800 Pizza
Our fave: Funghi Rossa (fresh mushrooms & Parmesan)
Price of a Margherita: Dhs43
800 Pizza is best known for its delivery, but we find that dine-in really demonstrates the quality of their wood-fired pizzas, even if you’re eating it in the early hours post-party. They use only the best authentic Italian ingredients; from the flour for the pizza dough to the San Marzano tomatoes for the sauce. Plus they have whole wheat and low-fat cheese options if you’re trying to make yourself feel a little better about indulging.
