Lace up your sneaks in the morning or before you head home and that commute might not seem so bad. A University of Maryland study found that people who biked at a moderate intensity for 30 minutes and then viewed anxiety-spiking images felt significantly calmer than those who just rested. “We already know that exercise increases the production of hormones that regulate the brain’s response to stressors, like traffic or an argument with a spouse,” says study author J. Carson Smith. “But it’s surprising that the effect lingers for up to 60 minutes.” Now that’s what we call a soothe move.
