Thousands Flock to Qatar Masters for a Big Weekend of Entertainment

26 Jan 2014

The world's best golfers plus a rocking concert from Texas drew the crowds for the highly successful annual tournament

What an amazing weekend!

Spanish golfer Sergio García thrilled the crowds on the final day of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters 2014 on Saturday by winning a nail-biting victory in the closing moments in a sudden-death play-off against Finland’s Mikko Ilonen.

Bringing to an end four days of spectacular golf from an international all-star line-up, this year’s tournament was definitely bigger and better than in previous years.

The perfect weather – not too hot and not too cool – made it a pleasant tournament for players and spectators alike, while the strong entertainment line-up was a huge attraction even for those who would never usually set foot inside Doha Golf Club. Die-hard golf fans attended for the whole four days, but the crowd surged on the weekend as those who couldn't get the time off work during the week and those purely interested in the concerts turned up.

The public village was packed on Friday night as Scottish band Texas took to the stage to perform a sizzling collection of their greatest hits, including ‘I Don’t Want A Lover’, ‘Halo’ and ‘Say What You Want’. Concert-goers sung along in front of the stage as a carnival atmosphere got everybody up and dancing.

The night before, the Divas of Soul – Rose Royce singer Gwen Dickey and Kathy Sledge of Sister Sledge – gave a smashing performance of classic hits such as ‘Car Wash’, ‘We Are Family’ and ‘Lost in Music’.
