During a recent concert, Taylor Swift fans were left emotional after the pop-sensation performed a heartbreaking song, Ronan, dedicated to fan Ronan Thompson who passed away of cancer.
At her concert in Glendale, Arizona, Taylor introduced the song, saying: “I think that in my opinion, one of the bravest things that a human being can ever do, is to go through something absolutely unbearable, and then share their experience with the rest of the world. And I think the braver you are the more brutally honest you are.”
She then called out to Maya Thompson, Ronan’s mother, who was in the audience that day and commended her for writing her feelings in her blog. Taylor said: “I would not know half as much about childhood cancer and childhood cancer research, if she hadn’t shared her story about her son, Ronan.”
Taylor confessed that she read Maya’s blog, Rock Star Ronan, every night. Taylor was deeply moved by the blog, especially since her mother had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. She requested her fans to give a round of applause to the brave mother for sharing her feelings.
Taylor was overcome with emotion while speaking and said she would “try and play this song.” The crowd cheered and watched as Taylor sang the beautiful lyrics, while holding back tears. Aww! There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!
The lyrics of the song come from blog posts written by Ronan's mother, Maya, who Taylor named as the co-writer of the track. Taylor had sung the song only once before back in 2012 as part of the Stand Up to Cancer campaign.
Maya was overwhelmed with the gesture and said: “I still can't believe tonight. I still can't believe you did this. This will forever be one of the most special moments of my life.”
