She’s been the darling of fashion editors and industry insiders since her dazzling catwalk show debut three years ago. But after slowly sneaking her way into the wardrobes of some of the most discerning dressers in showbiz, Mary Katrantzou is suddenly the hottest fashion designer in Hollywood – and looks set to become the next global style phenomenon.

Crazy about Katrantzou

Famed for her spectacular digital prints, inspired by everything from mechanical jewellery and perfume bottles to classic architecture and mangled machinery, the Central Saint Martins graduate has just shown her seventh collection at LFW and, seemingly overnight, become the most-worn womenswear label in showbiz world.

In a whirlwind month for the Greek-born, British based designer, Mary’s a/w 11 dresses have been spotted on the likes of everyone from Keira Knightley, who chose an elegant silk midi for the Venice Film Festival, to hot new Hollywood starlet LeeLee Sobieski, whose fish bowl print peplum mini at the Metropolitan Opera’s opening night cemented her status as a style-icon-in-training.

And in the most telling of trend tales, the one unifying style factor of the vastly differing front rows of New York, London, Milan and Paris, were the frequent appearances of her digital print designs.

Prints charming

The frock of choice for the coolest fashionistas in the business, including long-term fan Anna Dello Russo, Claudia Schiffer and Beyonce’s uber-edgy sister Solange Knowles, the current fixation with Katrantzou has made the 28-year old rising star one of the most exciting new designers.

“@marykatrantzou thank you for making great dresses. Me = happy, bank balance = sad” British style maven Alexa Chung tweeted after topping best dressed lists everywhere in a stunning Ming vase inspired Katrantzou number just last week. “It’s so great to see women who have their own unique style wearing the dresses with such strong presence” spilled Mary of her new army of fans. “They’ve all worn them so differently and it makes me very, very happy.”

Superstar style

With rumours rife the hugely talented Katrantzou is set for the most spectacular moment of her career yet – gossips claim she’s being tipped as John Galliano’s replacement at the House of Dior – and half of Hollywood clamouring to get their hands on her latest collection, we’d advise snapping up as many of Mary’s stunning pieces while you can – before the rest of the fashion pack beat you to it!
