The UAE's first ever dog park will open next year
Ras Al Khaimah is all set to open the UAE's first and only dog park next year. The park is slated to open February 1, 2018 and is being built by the government of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK). The park will be located in the Al Jazeera Al Hamra area at the RAK Animal welfare Centre (RAKAWC).
The 7,000 square metre Pawsome Park, as it has been so aptly named, will be run by RAKAWC, and will be a place where dogs can run free and enjoy the outdoors.
“The park will offer off-leash areas for dogs to play and run freely, a dog walking path, a fully equipped agility park and a swimming pool,” Dr Chenjerai Sigauke, RAKAWC Manager and Head Veterinarian said, reports Gulf News.
Also incorporated in the park will be a doggy day care centre and a pet hotel.
“These facilities will cater for both residents of RAK who go to work as well as tourists with pets who visit Ras Al Khaimah,” saidd Dr Sigauke.
“The park’s main aim is to provide dog owners with a place where they can take their dogs to play freely and safely away from traffic and without any restrictions. It will also serve as a place where dog owners can socialise and share tips on responsible pet ownership and make new friends,” added Dr Sigauke.
The park will be open to all breeds and sizes of dogs, with a separate area for small dogs weighting 10kg and less, and another area for large dogs. However, before admission, all dogs will have to undergo a behaviour assessment to ensure that they do not pose a risk to others.
Entrance fees have yet to be announced, but Pawsome Park will offer visitors monthly and yearly membership packages, along with regular one-day passes.
