It’s been a bit over a year since the last World Cup ended and the excitement and celebrations for the 2022 World Cup, and the UAE has started their World Cup season on a high.

The UAE football team defeated the Malaysian team 2-1 after a thrilling 90-minute contest and a brilliant performance by Ali Mabkhout.

UAE initially struggled against the hosts as Syafiq Ahmed’s header in the first minute put the Arab side on the back foot. Malaysia started energetically and applied massive pressure in front of the home crowd at the Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

Fortunately, Makbhout’s brace on either sides of the half secured the victory for UAE. The 28 year old scored 50 goals in just 80 games. A forceful header by Makhbout just two minutes before the break saw the visitors equalise and begin applying some pressure on the Malaysians.

A composed finish in the 75th minute by Makhbout secured the well-deserved victory for the side.

The UAE will face off next against Indonesia on the 10th of October on home soil.
