Abu Dhabi tolls are almost operating... but you need to register your car first
We’ve already confirmed the rumours about Abu Dhabi’s new toll gates and what their charges are.
But here’s a new update: according to the Department of Transport (DOT), vehicle owners will need to register before passing the toll gates. Owners can register their vehicles online and can access their account through their mobile application.
#AbuDhabi toll system operated by @AbuDhabiDoT & @ITCAbuDhabi, launching 15 October, is set to reduce traffic in the city, ease congestion for commuters & encourage more sustainable options like public transport, ride sharing & electric cars, which are fee exempt for 2 years. pic.twitter.com/rVKHozhgMf— Abu Dhabi Government Media Office (@admediaoffice) July 25, 2019
Owners will also need to a pay a registration fee of Dhs100 in order to create their account.
Vehicles registered in Abu Dhabi will not need to create the account and add credit to their account. Whatever charges they incur while passing the toll gates will have to be paid during the renewal of their car’s registration.
An integrated online registration system, which opens on 30 August, automatically creates accounts at no charge for #AbuDhabi registered vehicles. Payment of the toll fee is made through an e-wallet.— Abu Dhabi Government Media Office (@admediaoffice) July 25, 2019
For vehicles registered outside Abu Dhabi, you need to add credit to your account before passing the gates, and if you pass them without having credit, you will be given five days to pay it otherwise you will be fined. When you create an account for the toll gate system, out of the Dhs100 you pay, Dhs50 will be credited to your account.
To register, you need to enter your Emirates ID details and the car’s number plate along with some other personal details and you’re good to go.
