The Louvre Abu Dhabi's Extravagant First Anniversary Celebrations
Welcoming over 1 million visitors in total during its first year in business, The Louvre Abu Dhabi has greeted over 400,000 UAE residents, with Emirati nationals being one of the top two nationalities from the region who have visited, it's been revealed today, on the museum's first anniversary.
Contributing to this impressive figure, the museum has hosted more than 1,000 school trips, 5,000 guided tours, workshops and masterclasses, and programmed 115 special events. The iconic establishment has also hosted 400 artists from 22 countries including a massive show by British pop sensation Dua Lipa, who is playing tonight to kick off the museum’s official 1st birthday celebration.
In addition to tonight’s star-studded event, the museum prepares to embark on year two, which will see the unveiling of 11 new world-class acquisitions in the museum’s permanent galleries, alongside new significant loans from 13 French partner institutions as well as regional and international museums. The museum has also confirmed 40 new incredible masterpieces including Leonardo da Vinci’s La Belle Ferronniere from Musee du Louvre and Whistler’s Portrait of the Artist’s Mother from Musee d’Orsay.
Jean-Luc Martinez, President-Director of Musee du Louvre and President of the Scientific Council of Agence France-Museums, comments, "The exceptional collaboration between the French museum partners and our colleagues in the UAE is at the heart of this success, not only thanks to the quality of the 300 loans exhibited alongside an already rich Emirati collection but also due to the ambition of the exhibitions of international quality organised successively in partnership with French museums."
