The Boxtones

Going it alone is an intimidating step that often pays off. We came to Dubai on a six-night a week contract with a five star hotel; it took us a year to decide to go independent.
Releasing our first album, In the Pockets of Clowns, worldwide was a 2014 highlight. It got us nominated for a host of awards, including Ahlan!’s Best Local Music Act.
15,000 acts compete in Hard Rock Rising, a global battle of the bands event and we made it to the top 40! We also made it into the top 60 in the 10,000-participants’ Global Rockstar competition too.
Performing in front of thousands of people is an incredible feeling. Yasalam Beats on the Beach in Abu Dhabi drew a crowd of 30,000 whilst the Emirates Airlines Dubai Rugby Sevens attracted over 10,000.
We are hoarders. We collect D&D figurines, Star Wars paraphernalia and musical instruments. It’s safe to say, we’re running out of space in our apartments!
The early bird catches the worm…everytime. You need to be on top of all the event news in Dubai, and the surrounding region. We usually get called in to be involved with most events, but you also need to be out there, scouring for gigs and opportunities!
This is a billionaire’s playground, with plenty of music opportunities for young, unsigned bands. When an international music act comes to town, they are looking for support slots which guys like us love to fill.
2015 is already looking promising. We’re hoping to release a new album, confirmed to tour India and the UK and hopefully will tack on a stint in America and Canada too.

Jenny and Laura document must-visit places that fuel our wanderlust.
