1. Brussel sprouts

Yes, they’re not just for Christmas. Packed with energy-promoting vitamin B, glucosinolates, folic acid and vitamins K and C, these are set to be the vegetable of choice for 2016. They taste better cooked, and go just as well with a salad as a roast.

2. Teff

Another gluten-free grain grown in Ethiopia, Teff boasts high levels of iron and fibre. So while it may be small, it’s strong! It comes in a flour form, too, and is perfect to mix with porridge for a morning health kick.

3. Lucuma

Hailing from Peru, the lucuma isn’t to be confused with an avocado – take note of the bright yellow flesh inside. With beta carotene, iron, zinc and vitamin B3, if you can’t find then real thing then look out for a powder form. It’s the most popular ice-cream flavour in South America!

4. Kefir

Perfect for those with digestive issues, kefer is full of that good bacteria they keep telling us about. Part milk, part yoghurt, this fermented drink as a tart-like taste that the Russians have been drinking for centuries, apparently! It tastes delish in a chocolate smoothie.

5. Cactus Water

So long coconut water – there’s a new drink in town, and apparently it’s more hydrating that some good old H2O. Picking up pace in LA, it’s extracted from the fruit of the cactus plant and is jam-packed with goodies including calcium, magnesium and phosphorous.

6. Black rice

Sources say that a spoonful of black rice contains more antioxidants that a spoonful of blueberries, and it’s lower in sugar and higher in fibre, too. Go black rice! London’s Nopi is famous for its black rice, coconut milk, banana and mango dish – why not give it a go at home?

7. Banana Flour

The newest flour substitute on the market, this gluten-free powder is made from green bananas and perfect for anyone with intolerances. Its health-factor is upped thanks to the fact its high in resistant starch, which isn’t easily absorbed meaning less sugar is released into the blood. Interesting, hey!

8. Kelp

One of the more recognisable names, this nutrient-rich seaweed contains a lot of iodine which gets to work on any thyroid and pituitary problems. It’s a diuretic, too, so great for anyone suffering from water retention. You’ll find it in our many sushi bars easily!

9. Birch Water

Harvested from the sap of birch trees, birch water is full of healthy electrolytes including potassium, magnesium and calcium, so it is amazing for hyrdration. Take to the gym and a post work-out quench or sip on throughout the day for its antioxidant properties.

10. Frekeeh

Similar to quinoa, this magic grain is low on the glycaemic index thanks to the fact it’s harvested at a very early stage. With higher protein and fibre percentages than most grains, use it as a substitute for rice, as it cooks in just 20 minutes.
