] It was great to get close to the action and have pit lane access at this year’s Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix. Thanks to my VIP pass, courtesy of Kimi Raikonen’s management team and dear friends, Steve and Suzi Robertson, I was mingling everywhere and anywhere!
As soon as we arrived at the Formula One Paddock Club, we saw the stars of the racing world as they prepared for the final race of the 2015 season. We were up close with the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Filipe Nasr and Jenson Button.
I Love the UAE
We were so close to the action that we could actually smell burning rubber! We hung out in the Sauber F1 Hospitality suite where they put on a feast for the drivers and their teams. We were invited to go to the pit lane and look inside the garages, which was incredible and a real treat, and as we headed out to the lane just before the start of the race, Etihad gave a spectacular air display as they flew overhead in perfect synchronisation and made patterns in the clouds with the colours of our UAE flag. I felt very proud and patriotic at that moment.
After the race, we watched the fireworks celebrating the end of the race from the roof top terrace of the driver’s lounge, where they were all chilling out. I had my photo taken with the German racing driver and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettle. He was humble and charming and told me I looked young, which went down well having just celebrated my 40th birthday!
Blur Have Still Got It
Next it was time for the after race entertainment which was provided by one of the biggest Brit-Pop bands of the 90’s, Blur. As we watched one of my all-time favourite bands I felt like I was a student all over again! The boys were on great form and Damon still has his ‘bad boy’ image and sounded great as he belted out all of their hits, such as Girls and Boys, Country House and Parklife. I danced the night away with my Ahlan! pals JJ and Catriona under the stars in the backstage Mahiki area which Matt Jolley and his team did a wonderful job of. After a special day we drove home back to Dubai, via McDonalds!
