New hope: Will Yoda be in Abu Dhabi?

After months of speculation we can now confirm that the seventh movie in the Star Wars saga will begin filming on Tuesday 13 May in Abu Dhabi.

The secret location in the middle of the desert is being guarded by both police and army officers in a bid to keep the top secret scenes away from the press.

According to The National newspaper, the set is almost completed and will include a salt lake, a large tower, a market area and a spacecraft.

The newspaper also reported that two lorries carrying explosives had been seen on set which are believed to be used to create a crater blast for a scene that will include a spectacular crashing spacecraft that is shot down from the sky in dramatic fashion.

Star Wars: Episode VII, which is set 30 years after the Return of the Jedi, is scheduled to be released in December 2015.
