Great news for Trekkies! Producers have confirmed that the third instalment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise will be shot in Dubai.

Skydance Productions head David Ellisson said, “We start shooting in 10 days and we’re shooting in Vancouver and Dubai.”

He did not give a timescale for the Dubai shoot, but sources say that the crew might be visiting in August, and could use Dubai as the setting for an ‘alien’ city, which the crew stumble across on their voyage.

The star cast features actors Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine and Simon Pegg who will reprise their roles of Spock, Uhura, Captain Kirk and Scotty, respectively. Powerhouse performer Idris Elba and actress Sofia Boutella have also been rumoured to be a part of the film.

Star Trek director Jusin Lin, of Fast and Furious 6 fame had recently confirmed in a Tweet that the third film in the rebooted franchise will be titled Star Trek Beyond. The film is scheduled to release next July and will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original TV series.
