Ninive is an invitation to travel through time and space, and is a sophisticated step into the hustle and bustle of Dubai. Designed as a contemporary meeting point, between a nomad tent and a caravanserai, Ninive is a breathtaking rendezvous hot-spot for a curious and well-travelled crowd.
It does not revisit the past but it does revive the sometimes-forgotten tastes of a region with powerful culinary traditions. For instance, the sautéed lamb is marinated in spices before being cooked in a casserole dish, and each vegetable is prepared separately to preserve its individual aroma. The dishes are from all over the Middle East and North Africa: Iranian, Iraqi, Turkish and Moroccan.
It was necessary to keep in mind the diversity of cultures and stories. The desire is to serve regional dishes, to find the most famous ones, and to serve a clientele of curious travellers who would like to learn about these legends.
Famous London design studio Hopscotch’s designer James Michael Lees was behind the interior design of the restaurant. Lees also created the interiors for its sister establishment La Cantine du Faubourg Dubai.
“The restaurant is suspended, as if floating, like an oasis in the desert. It combines elements of a garden and a contemporary urban majlis, the space where, in Islamic culture, people meet to make big decisions. This is how Ninive was born,” Lees revealed.
As a result, Ninive is now one of Dubai’s most beautiful and Instagram-friendly venues thanks to its unique décor and stunning city views. And thanks to its exceptional cuisine, which is also one of the tastiest.
