Dubai Municipality has launched a smart, integrated system for classification and registration of consumer products called Montaji. The system will be available for consumers in the upcoming months via an app of the same name.
Unveiling the service, Khalid Mohammad Sharif Al Awadhi, assistant director general for Environment, Health and Safety Control Sector said the new online system will ensure product safety while guaranteeing smooth flow of trade, reports Gulf News.
With the launch of the new system, It is now compulsory for all consumer safety products such as health supplements, cosmetic and personal care products, perfumes, detergents, soaps, packaging materials and biocides such as antibacterial products in Dubai to be registered with Montaji, said Dr Naseem Mohammed Rafee, head of Consumer Product Safety Section.
Once the app is launched, customers will be able to scan product barcodes to ensure that the products they are buying are in fact original. Consumers will also be able to report violations through the municipality’s call centre 800900.
The Montaji app is expected to be available to consumers within the next two months, said Ahmad Mohammad Kajoor, head of IT Infrastructure at the municipality. The app will also have the option for consumers to input data related to their health, such as allergies or pregnancy.
“For example, once the health profiling of a consumer is fed on the app, he can scan the product details and check the risk the product can pose in case of allergies to certain ingredients etc”
This will help ensure that consumers are buying products suited to their health needs.
Will you be using Montaji? We sure will!
