14 years after its release in 2006 (yes, you’re old), Snow Patrol’s lovestruck ballad Chasing Cars has been awarded as UK’s most listened to song of the 21st century.

Despite it never hitting number one on Britain’s Official Singles Chart, Chasing Cars was coined as the most played track of the decade back in 2009 and now it‘s the most played song in the last 20 years.

Lead singer of the band Gary Lightbody says the news is unbelievable and he’s never been able to figure out why it became such a massive success. He also shockingly unveiled that the beautifully poetic song was written in one night amidst writing nine other songs. ONE NIGHT.

The singer explained that the audience resonates with the song as it is unabashedly and an emotionally open love song that hits people in the right spots. The song rose to popularity when it was featured during a super heartbreaking scene in Grey’s Anatomy and has become an absolute classic.

The second most played track of the century went to Black Eyed Peas’ I Got A Feeling and Pharrell Williams’ Happy came third.

We’re just going to lie on the floor and sing along to the song on repeat.
