Shah Rukh Khan was in Dubai yesterday (24 October) for the world premiere of his sci-fi superhero movie RA.One, and it’s safe to say that he had the city spellbound. Much is riding on the film for Shah Rukh because it's a home production and it's believed to be one of the most expensive movies ever made in India at an estimated budget of $30 million (Dhs110 million ).

In a bid to make sure the movie is a success financially, the Bollywood superstar known as SRK has pulled out all stops to market it to the world. The actor has already been on a whirlwind tour of various Indian cities to promote RA.One despite the fact that the movie isn't released in the country until tomorrow (26 October). Now SRK is kicking off the international leg of premieres in Dubai. So we got all the deets on Shah Rukh's schedule while he was in the city.

Shah Rukh’s Dubai itinerary
SRK landed in Dubai with his co-stars Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal on Monday (24 October) in the early afternoon and headed straight to the Grand Hyatt. The Bollywood star then went straight on to host a press conference at the hotel.

Before meeting the media, Shah Rukh took time out for an event to greet winners of a Western Union competition.

At the press conference, Shah Rukh spoke briefly but passionately about RA.One, his dream project. The movie is about the eternal fight between good and evil and SRK’s character, the hero G.One, fights against the villain RA.One in a sci-fi setting. The superstar then confessed that his parents were his personal superheroes, and went on to add that Batman was his favourite comic book superhero.

Shah Rukh also shared why the movie was named after its villain RA.One rather than the hero G.One played by him, "It's the bad guy who teaches you about the good guy. Good exists because of evil, hence the title."

After the press conference, Shah Rukh and his co-stars hit the red carpet for the world premiere of RA.One at the Grand Cineplex near Wafi. Thousands of fans had gathered at the theatre to catch a glimpse of the stars. Shah Rukh didn’t disappoint them, as he shook hands with several fans and even chatted with them despite the heavy barricades in place.

After the premiere, Shah Rukh headed to a special dinner at the Grand Hyatt which was followed by the auction of the RA.One action figure. All proceeds went to charity.

Shah Rukh and his co-stars then jetted straight on to the UK for the London premiere of the movie. It was an exhausting but exhilarating time for the superstar who tweeted, “London bound. Tired cos [sic] am a bit sick but happy that film is being liked so much. Three more cities... want to get back home and start anew and fresh.”

RA.One Trivia

Here’s more on Shah Rukh Khan’s movie of the moment:

Shah Rukh and RA.One director Anubhav Sinha watched as many as 200 superhero films in multiple languages from all over the world before making the movie.

Shah Rukh roped in international singer Akon for two songs – Chammak Challo and Criminal - both of which are now topping Indian music charts.

The G.One suit that Shah Rukh wears in RA.One is made of silicon, styrofoam and rubber. Sounds uncomfortable!

INFO: Tickets cost Dhs30. RA.One releases 25 October in the UAE and is screening at Grand Cinema theatres across the UAE. For more information visit www.grandcinemas.com
