From diva tantrums, to cat-fighting and sniddy comments, the battle of egos between some of Hollywood’s narcissistic stars can be epic. Ahlan! looks at the biggest onscreen enemies...
Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie
Film: The Tourist
While it was reported that Vanessa Paradis demanded for a steamy shower between Johnny and Ange in The Tourist to be removed, it’s rumoured she needn’t have feared about on-set chemistry as the pair allegedly disliked each other. A source revealed, “Their chemistry was supposed to fly off the charts, but in private, they’re not getting along. She was disappointed that he didn’t get in better shape for the role and that he didn’t want to cut his hair.” The insider also claimed that Johnny thought Ange was a “prima donna” insisting he refused to spend time with the actress – “Johnny retreats to his own trailer until he’s called out again. He think she’s really full of herself.”
Megan Fox and Michael Bay
Perhaps the most public feud in Hollywood history with Megan eventually getting sacked after comparing Transformers director Michael to an infamous wartime dictator. The showbiz industry has seemingly turned it’s back on the actress after she continuously slammed Michael for focusing on special effects and provocative imagery. Fed up of her badmouthing, even co-star Shia LaBeouf commented on Megan’s attitude toward the 46-year-old, insisting, “Criticism is one thing. Then there’s public name-calling, which turns into high school bashing. Which you can’t do. She started s***-talking our captain.” Michael calmly retorted, “That’s Megan Fox for you. She says some very ridiculous things.” Megan was replaced by model Rosie Huntington Whitely and the third franchise was a huge box office hit.
Bill Murray and Lucy Liu
Film: Charlie’s Angels
She may look sweet but according to Bill, Lucy is a diva. Sources claim the Ghostbusters star took a serious disliking to the actress. So much so in fact that it’s alleged he refused to make any public appearances to support the movie because he couldn’t bear her out-of-control ego! He also turned down reprising the role in the sequel, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. According to sources, the entire on-set crew including Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore had to step in when Bill and Lucy had a big dispute over the script. An on-set source alleged Bill turned to each of the actress’ and, in a full rage, said “I get why you’re [Barrymore] here, and you’ve [Diaz] got talent ... but what in the hell are you [Liu] doing here? You can’t act!” An enraged Lucy is said to have gotten physical, throwing a punch at Bill. Both actors claimed their bout was down to “creative differences” being blown out of proportion.
Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett
Film: Hollywood Homicide
Acting legend Harrison is said to have taken an instant disliking to young star Josh referring to him as a “punk” to which Josh retaliated calling the 69-year-old “an old fart”! Perhaps it was the frustration that their roles were reversed – Harrison’s character is a good shot and stunt driver while in reality he hates guns and Josh is a trained a shooter. Either way the pair were said to be a nightmare to work with even making snide remarks at each other during press conferences. The lack of onscreen camaraderie saw the movie flop!
Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey
Film: Dirty Dancing
While their onscreen chemistry has become the fantasy relationship for many, in reality the two actors didn’t see eye-to-eye. Rumour has it that Patrick’s frustration in the sultry dance scene in which Jennifer giggles while he runs his hand down her arm was 100 per cent genuine.
Their hatred toward each other stems from a fight on-set of Red Dawn. While their dispute was thought to be minor it hurt Jen so much she nearly pulled out of Dirty Dancing when discovering the heartthrob was to play her leading man.
The actor wrote about their relationship in his memoir, “We did have a few moments of friction when we were tired or after a long day of shooting. [Grey] seemed particularly emotional, sometimes bursting into tears if someone criticized her. Other times, she slipped into silly moods, forcing us to do scenes over and over again when she’d start laughing. I didn’t have a whole lot of patience for doing multiple retakes.”
However, confirming, after a heart-to-heart they’d made up, he added, “She did a phenomenal job…she made the movie.”
Blake Lively and Leighton Meester
Show: Gossip Girls
As the main fashion darlings of the hit show, Blake and Leighton were immediately pitted as rivals and according to reports, as the show’s popularity increased the pair competed over the best outfits. Leighton was said to be fuming that Blake gets first dibs on all the best dresses. “Blake’s become the darling of the fashion world – “Leighton feels all anyone cares about is what Blake’s character is wearing,” spilled a source. The feud is said to be so bad the stars are kept apart – “The crew snag Blake for scenes moments before it’s shot to avoid any awkwardness with Leighton.”
Ashley Greene and Kristen Stewart
Rumours have been circulating, suggesting Kristen and Ashley hated each other on set after Ashley admitted they fought, insisting, “We’re exhausted! Things happen. But the nice part is that at the end of the day, it’s like yelling at your sister. You don’t stay mad at her.” However, while she claims the feuds are more lighthearted some insiders have speculated further, adding, “Kristen is furious that Ashley has been getting so much positive praise during promotional tours. Ashley has turned out to be the real favourite with Twilight fans.” It was even alleged that the tension caused Kristen to have a “breakdown” as she refused to attend the Teen Choice Awards. A source said, “Kristen always gets a much harder time. It’s hurt her feelings. Ashley even won the Scene Stealer award at the Teen Choice Awards.
