Given that Sawsan Ghanem, Managing Director of Active PR, and her husband Louay Al-Samarrai love collecting unique decorative pieces, art, furniture and accessories, the style that has evolved in their home can best be described as “eclectic”. Their interior design fuses vintage Arabic with quirky European, and there is a strong emphasis on colour. Their orange, vintage-inspired sofa is a real statement piece, and their favourite paintings were commissioned from Scottish artist Steve Johnston. Meanwhile, a Queen LP from a Japanese tour during the 1970s – autographed by all the members of the band, including Freddie Mercury – is a real collectors’ item.
The family den is where they spend the most time. “Whenever I look up at any of the countless photos on the wall,” Sawsan says, “I well up with happy emotions and memories. When we return from our travels, near or far, as soon as we walk into the family den, I feel at home and secure.”
