Sartorial Spotlight: Dina Zahran
What makes your life fashionable?
I design clothes for a living, so I eat, breathe and sleep fashion and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
How does fashion affect you?
It inspires me and brings me joy. The way I dress every day depends on how I’m feeling that day. I could be in sneakers and an army jacket one day, then a ruffled skirt and silky top the next.
How would you describe your personal style?
It’s a cross between edgy and elegant. I like things neat and well fitted, but at the same time every outfit has to have a special twist that makes it stand out. I love to mix and match contrasting fabrics and patterns to create unique outfits. Sparkly sneakers, a lips brooch, or a furry vest – there has to be an element of fun in there somewhere!
Who’s your style icon?
Brigitte Bardot – she’s elegant and confident yet experimental and constantly changing.
Which star’s style do you love?
Olivia Palermo and Anna Dello Russo. Their styles are so different but I love elements from each, and I think a combination of the two of them is the perfect style!
Which celeb gets it all wrong?
Lately I’m finding Kim Kardashian pretty disastrous! You don’t have to be almost naked to look good – there’s a fine line.
Who’s your fave designer?
Valentino, Chanel, Oscar de la Renta, Alexander Wang – oh, did you mean just one?
How do you dress from day to night if you’re going straight to an event after work?
I’ll wear a fun skirt with a simple top and sneakers during the day and then throw on a pair of heels and big colourful statement earrings and add some lipstick for the event. A few subtle tweaks can change an entire look.
What’s your favourite high street store?
Zara every single time! And Topshop is great as well.
What’s your favourite online fashion store?
Net-a-Porter and Farfetch are my favourites. And ASOS for bulk impulse shopping!
What are you favourite trends for this season?
Right now I am obsessed with sneakers! For some reason I just can’t stop wearing (and buying!) sneakers with everything, from jeans to dresses and skirts – and the more mismatched the better, for some reason!
Best piece of fashion advice you’ve ever been given?
Let your personality shine through your outfits. And, most importantly, don’t take yourself too seriously and always have fun with fashion!
What are the items you’re currently lusting after?
A micro Lady Dior – I have an obsession with small bags! And I also have my eye on a pair of Valentino Rockstud flats. The list is never-ending!
