RTA revealed the launch of a new partnership with Careem that encourages residents across Dubai to cycle. The bicycle program will enable easy travelling for short-distance trips, help with sustainability and save us money! Of course, it will also help ease the traffic congestion during peak hours.
The stations run 24-hours a day via an app and docking system that releases bikes using a ride code or a member key. The new Careem Bike app will be available for iOS and Android, initially as a standalone Careem app.
Users can access the bikes via the app or at one of the smart docking stations with credit and debit cards, with daily to yearly memberships on offer.
Careem will use a GPS to track bicycles and predict high occupancy areas. It will also implement environmental sustainability methods through solar-powered bicycle racks and connecting them to a wireless network. Amazing!
The docking stations will be available at several Dubai hotspots such as the Marina, Jumeirah, Dubai Water Canal, Deira, Al Khawaneej and Al Qudra. It will also be available at districts like Al Qusais, Al Mankhoul, Al Karama, and Al Barsha. The speed limit on dedicated cycling lanes or safe roads is fixed at 40 kph.
Time to get cycling, folks!
