As the spawn of perennially polished fashion plates Victoriaand David, you’d imagine the Beckham boys have grown up knowing a thing or two about looking good. But bagging a best dressed accolade after you’ve only just about learned to tie your shoelaces? Now that’s impressive!
Eight-year-old Romeo Beckham has just been made the world’s youngest male fashion icon after GQ Magazine counted him one of Britain’s 50 Most Stylish Men in their 2010 listing.
Debuting at a not-too-shabby number 26 (just 10 spots under super-stylish dad, David), Romeo beat off competition from grown-ups including future King of England, Prince William and Sienna Miller’s on-off boyfriend, Jude Law.
Described as ‘frighteningly tuned in’ by the expert fashion panel at GQ, Romeo’s penchant for pinstripe suits, beanie hats and funky sunglasses had him competing with some of the world’s most terrifically turned out chaps, including uber-glam fashion designer Tom Ford and Twilight hottie, Robert Pattinson.
“He’s experimental, quirky and fun,” commented judge David Walker-Smith, Menswear Director at swanky British department store Selfridges. “Romeo’s style has nothing mini-me about it. It’s all me-me!”
While Romeo’s fondness for tailoring and his ability to look pristine at all times (no mean feat for anyone under 18, if we’re honest!) has caught the eye of the fashion fraternity, his talents aren’t restricted to his choice of threads. With a line of self-designed sunglasses already under his belt, and talks of a collaboration with his fashion designer mum Victoria on a kidswear range, Romeo could well be the next big (small) thing in fashion world. And all before his 9th birthday. Career envy? Us? Now don’t be ridiculous...
