The Needed Me singer protects herself from the Zika virus

Rihanna had to cancel her performance at Lollapalooza Colombia because she’s concerned about the Zika virus. The Diamonds singer was scheduled to headline the inaugural two day event in Bogota in September.

RiRi’s currently in Europe performing her Anti World Tour and she made the decision to drop the Lollapalooza gig as Colombia has the second-most cases of the Zika virus – transmitted by infected mosquitoes.

The 28-year old said to Glamour magazine that she’s protecting herself: “I’m not taking Zika lightly. I definitely am going everywhere protected.”

Her cancellation put festival planners in quite a complicated situation as they needed to find someone to replace her.

Lana Del Rey, Disclosure, Wiz Khalifa, The Chainsmokers were also on the bill but they wanted someone as influential as Rihanna.

The organisers finally decided to pull the plug on the entire festival saying they didn’t have enough time to find a decent replacement.

In a statement they expressed their “deep appreciation to all the fans who supported the festival since day one, as well as the sponsors and the media partners.”
